Claire Stewart is Professor of Stem Cell Biology at Liverpool John Moores University. She has a degree in Developmental Biology, a PhD in Biochemistry and Physiology, and approximately 20 years of research experience investigating the regulators of skeletal muscle degeneration, regeneration and repair in health and disease and across the ages. Given the enormous wealth of information in stem cell biology, the talk will not focus too much on muscle stem cell research (her core research area) – rather the purpose of the talk will be to take you on a journey from cells to embryonic and adult stem cells, to engineered stem cells and tissue engineering. This whistle-stop tour will attempt to cover the potential and controversy, hope and hype surrounding the world of stem cell biology. It is anticipated that this foundation will enable good debate and food for thought.
