Ants are dominant organisms in nearly all terrestrial habitats yet their influence and surprising diversity of lifestyles often goes unappreciated. Ants can be farmers or hunters, nomads or big city dwellers, parasites or pastoralists. Researchers from the field of evolutionary biology, ecology and animal behaviour have all contributed to our growing knowledge base of ant diversity, its interaction with other plants and animals, and ultimately, its role in planet earth's ecosystem.
Tom Bishop, from the Universities of Liverpool and Pretoria, will shed light on the amazing diversity of the ants and introduce his own research exploring the mountain ecology of southern African ants.
